INGE MORATH.
1923-2002

INGE was an austrian born in Graz. She attended Berlin University and she was fluent in six languages. She was very smart and went on to work in journalism among other occupations. During a trip to Venice she began taking photographs, she knew that's what she wanted to do with her life. Morath applied for an apprenticeship with Simon Guttman, who was at that time an editor for Picture Post and running the picture-agency Report. When she was asked why she wanted to be a photographer, she said she found a language in photography. She sold her first photographs, of opening nights, exhibitions, inaugurations, etc., under the name Egni Tharom, which is her own name spelled backwards. In 1953, Morath presented her first large picture story to Capa, and he invited her to join the agency as a photographer. Morath's portrait of Mrs. Evelyn Nash, is among her best known photographs. In 1953-54, Morath worked with Cartier-Bresson as a researcher and assistant, and 55 she was invited to become a full member of Magnum Photos. During the late 1950s Morath traveled widely, covering stories in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the United States, and South America for Vogue.Morath worked again with Huston in 1960 on the set of The Misfits,a screenplay by Arthur Miller. Magnum Photos had the rights to photograph ]Morath and Cartier-Bresson were two of the nine to work on it. Morath's achievements during her first decade of work as a photographer are amazing. Alongside with Eve Arnold, she was among the first women of Magnum Photos, which remains more of a male organization. Many write about the element of playful surrealism that characterizes Morath's work from this period. Her work was motivated by humanism, also the end of the war. Her motif was the "endurance of the human spirit under situations of extremes as well as its manifestations of ecstasy and joy". In her later years she relocated and moved to the US where everwhere she went she photographerd and continued to pursuit her love of photography. She wrote many texts, everywhere she went she documented. In 2002 she passed away due to cancer.
In honor of her, the members of Magnum Photos established the Inge Morath Award in 2002. The annual award is administrated by the Inge Morath Foundation, and is given to a woman photographer under the age of 30, to support work towards the completion of a long-term project.
The reason why i love her work so much, is becuase her work is so cosmopolatain in my eyes. She did so many things with hollywood and i love that element. Also she could balance it out and do something meaningful and pretty. Here are some examples...

this is inge's most famous photo. I love portraits and i think this captures Nash in a natural real time. I love that shes not the only person in the photo.

this is a photo from the misfits. even though this is a staged photo, i think she got it in a perfect moment. I also love that every one of her photos are black and white, even though she even had colored film.

she also loved to photgraph artists with their work. THis is an artist with her pot she made. I feel like you get a stong emotion fromt his photo, you can tell the women is proud of her work. I love the element of feeling something fromt he photo.

this is just another common photo by inge. i like the simplicity of this photo along with the others, it teaches me that the simpliler the better. i also love the contrast, it isnt as harsh as snow usually looks like

so this is one of the few photos i found that isnt in color...and isnt a portrait. i stilll really like it, it still keeps the theme she always has. it definately takes you back to the day and shows a common scene, i love going back and placing myself in that spot.

welll its the end of the road for junior year digggg....

so i feel like ive learned a shiii ton this year....hahahha wow. but soo true. i know im not suppposted to talk tech.ly. but im gonna for a second. i feel like ive learned a tonna skills i can use throughout my photo life, and my focus has come a lonnnnng way. and ive learned how to white balence! so i feel that it is a major accomplishment...
as a photographer i feel like ive grown a lot too...i feel like ive just gotten better then last year in the big picture. but like at the beginning i was noticing i was doing a lotta stuff differently...i liked it. its more what i want to do. i mean im still growing a ton i havent learned completely what im going to do with photography...but im willing to continue to search... but so far ive finally found an emotional tie to photo that i wanna run with...i also found the lighting i was fond of after a long time of waiting to discover... after all this that ive learned just from these last months its the most ive ever learned. i am so much more ready to learn, and i have a new like appreciation for photo ive learned that i have a passion for it, more than i had last year.
i cant wait for the new experiences!

forever and always

finalllloverdover

alright...so im more happy at the end result of this than i thought i would be, thank god. this assignment is different than anything ive ever done. its hit me emotionally....which is weird. im not an emotional person, im in fact the strongest willed in my family. this project just got me to think. finally my project was the women that influence me throughout my life...throough the generations... my family has such a tight bond, i wanted to capture how much they mean to me and what make them as well live their life how they do...

this is my sister...i am a big influence one her.. this is something different then ive done..but i love it. i like the idea of how young children are an all seeing eye..i feel that when i see this photo. melissa is a very important part of my life.

i loveeeeeeeee this photo. although i am very close with yiayia...mel and her are two peas in a pod. i love showing the connection of the two.

wellllll this is pretty much repping my mother...this explains her life. pharmacy. its what shes investerd her life on to make things possible for me and my sister.

not my fave photo...but this is the priest that everyone knew and loved in rock springs...he was very close to my papou and yiayia...the town fell apart the day he passed away... this photo is just remembering him. i think it has deep meaning.

love this picture....this is our little church..on a sunday. the church my family has invested and known all of their lives. this is proof that all of the greek generation has passed. this church on sunday used to be FULL and now only my yiayia and her best fried hope attends...

this is something id take before...i love the backround...and i love that she isnt looking right at me. i like this photo...

awww my little goddaughter evyn. hahah shooting her was a pain in the...ass. she is the funniest little girl with theeee best freaking facial expressions...but i couldnt capture them well... but i got her at the best time...hahah eating her beloved mandms. this is the youngest generation that is in my life. she and i have such a close bond. and i lvoe that...her parents have allowed us to spend more time than most godparents spend with their godchildren. even though she lives in rock springs i love watching her grow up and see the changes in her life occur. she was the last child to be baptized by the local priest father lukas that passed away. i think her and i should be blessed because of it! love her

MY FAVORITE. i love this...it jusst defines my yiayia so well...the outside of our little church that she loves so much. i love that the church isnt a typical greek orthodox church that you see aka this one isnt extravagent like they are now. i think its a touchy subject because this one is so old and you can see that throughout time they focus on like rediculous things instead of the simple things.

best focus in my series...i like it. good ol streets of wyomin. my yiayias stompin ground.

my thea gracie...she is the hardest working woman i know....sorry mom youre next...but i wanted to like portray her hard working which i think i did aka streeeesss... and like how far shes come...the big city in the backround her big diamond necklace. im so proud of her!

so techniqually...wow i cant spell..i think i did alriht.. i mean i miss my tripod HELLA. but i feel like ive been consistant with that and it isnt that bad so no reason to get down you know. uhm... i loved putting together the panos they were supper easy hahha im really happy about that. i loved that i chose to present in black and white i feel like it brought so much mmore emotion across and of course that was like my whole goal!

overall i love it. i feel like ive accomplished a whole new level. i feel like ive broken down my personal barrier. i didnt think the photos would back up my actual story well enough but i did! i love that this assignment broke into a more sensitive emotional place that ive never been before... it was really great to shoot my yiayia. i love the fact that i will always have this photos to look back on they are precious to me. and i know they will be very special to show my family. i love that i showed alll the generations, that was a big one for me to do. and i loved spending this qualitiy time with my family, going to rock springs with my yiayia on a random weekend, i usually hate to go there because i find it depressing but i loved that weekend trip so much and ill defff have memories from it. i wanna continue doing stuff like this, i feel like i have a lotta new ideas not. i cant wait to see what the future has to bring for my beautiful family, i love them so much. and i feel like ive accomplished my goal. bring it on pattttttttt.

PANORAMA MAMA

sooooooo panos!
ha i am partial to these..i haven't found my love for them, and i havent found a true hate...
techniqalitiies, and poor subject matter....i felt like i used the whole time to shoot these i mean i kept going back and back over again to get something that i didnt before...i dont think that was very efficient. i just wish i did things right the first time...
my big problem this time was finding inspiration! like i loved shooting the vertical ones like i just find it so fun and like a vertical pano is truely something you cant get in one shot you know. like i liked finding things that you need to tip your head to see... i thought they were more interesting to look at and thats why i got those done so quickly. then the computer problems acted up. like it was just a long process but after you do one you know how to do it well! the one of the flag was a paiiiin because my computer wouldnt load it.... that was a pain and took a big chunck of time. i feel like my vertical tells a better "story" because they represent people...the flag speaks for itself and my church as well...
horizontal just plain sucked. i couldnt find anything that caught my eye...i wanted my panos to telll a certain story and not just be a photo... and i kinda do not feel like a accomplished that...that isnt tearing myself down im just saying i didnt exercise my full potential. buttttt my landscape is my backyard...i was dreading shooting cuz i thoguth it be boring but i think it looks really pretty actually. i love the light. the ones of the books i feel that like is just different...i loveed the long wall of books and thought it would be kinda a cool photo...i think i was right hahah its different... and thats what i like

learning experience....i found light i like! i like that overcast light! thank god i finally figured that out i was starting to get worried..but when im shooting up close object i like vivid light... i love that im starting to make my own decisions in what i like!!! yes

lets start this final project bizz!

MINI FINAL

so this is probably like the photo that you ask why does she even like this! haha but i feel that is super in focus you know, and i love the color of it. they arent pink yet red. i really love it. i think it was a cool concept. i cant really explain further why i like it i just do!

complimentry colors favorite print. the reason i like this photo is because the colors are so vivid, and i didnt even mess witht the colors in lightroom. i also as you know love shooting shoes! so this was fun to mess around with.

this is my first real successful reshoot. this photo is proof that i learned something from color balancing, i shot my blue cups then reshot these white plates and made them really really white. it makes me feel like i have actually solved my white balencing problem.

rachel brunner....my hero. she was a bomb model. i love this photo particularly because she isnt posing like any of my other photos.... she also shows me emotion. i love this photo because it is close up, i didnt have to deal too much with her body its just a true portrait.

favorite portrait assignment. i love this one of alexsa. i love the light. all term i really havent captured tthe light i really enjoy yet. this photo actually does it for me! i like it because it shows her acting natural compared to the rest of my photos when she is smiling and posing. getting her hair and face tone to be normal was a chore. but i love love love it.

i love this photograph. i took this for the cemetary extra credit, but this is a better portrait. I love the look of the model her eyes are stunning. the model i think makes this picture, the intensity she gives me is beautiful. she is the best model i have ever used for pictures. i love the darkness on the bottom and the bright light at the top. it is a good balence.

the term summed up!
so i think i have learned a tonn this term... i learned how to do this color buisness...
i have learned color balence is a key factor when shooting. i also learned to stay positive. like i had some tough times already but i stuck it thru and i finished every one of my assiggnments with little to no problem. also the model you use is an important factor. my focus although not sharp at times has improved. dont wait forever to shoot. keep trying to find the right light because that is my weakness. free shooting sucks that is a main thing i learned also to keep photograph ideas written down!. ive tried super hard this term, ive really given it a lot of work, time, and patience. i hope my work reflects it. let's start next term!

ASSIGNMENT 6

ah portraits.
so this assignment was interesting. i love shooting portraits....this time around i wasn't so super. i do not like shooting in color portaits. it really screwed me up. all my models that i would love love to print just suck because like most of my models were blond and their hair really looked green. then in my first case with alexsa her face is really really red. i honestly rather go get another model then to fix it in lightroom, which is what i did. super. ha but she was blond again. but i things went a lot better than i thought. her balence werent so off. i loved the pictures of the little girl but she didnt show me any emotion in her face and they were all really bllurry...more blurry then my second time shooting and i didnt have a tripod then. i didnt shoot the second weekend because it snowed and really i couldnt handle dealing witht he color of snow because i suck at brightness.... i had a hard time completing the rest of the assignment..i didnt know who to shoot and what not. i knew my ideal model-someone cocky. people who are really into themselves i learned are very good at modeling. but with all my blond models i was trying to steer clear and mostly all my big headed friends are blond i wanted variation. which was hard to find. and then i was not stoked on shooting myself. i couldnt find a celtics jersey simply because i dont associate with people who like them...so my idea was kinda lost. i hate the one of myself...i just needed proof that i tried. that is my only photo that i really hate.

i cant wait to do portraits again but in black and white. i actually really like my shots. i think they define a complete portait. like they all show my models face and what they look like which is the goal of a portait. i am really really happy with my end product.

ASSIGNMENT 5

sooooooooooo ps i hate this assignment with a living passion inside of me. i had no inspiration of anything for this assignment. all i really really wanted to do is portaits...and i thought that was stupid vbecause that is just our next assignment so what is even the point of that. it kinda sucks because when you have all these ideas of things i wanna shoot...then i get to this free assignment and just go blank. freedom isnt everything we sum it up to be ive decided we all wanted it but when we get it it is something we hate. thats what i feel has happened thru this assignment. i dont really like any my photots...i like two. the two i like are my pictures of the three trees because that is something i dont really take photos of..because i never take photos of nature..im not really a nature girl and i thought that one came out well. i also love the one of the grill like thing haha the rest are ugly. i think i screwed up the white balence....and i just dont know.. although i am not too happy about my photos there is one thing i still pride myself on is like i didnt give up on this even though i had no creativity in it... this time i really didnt start super late either i brought photos thru the whole week and thru the whole week put them up. well pretty much, its time to either reshoot this or take some kick ass portraits....haha.
